Understanding the Display

The AL60 uses two concentric rings of high-density RGB LEDs to display time and sensory information. Unlike a traditional clock with physical hands, the AL60 uses light to represent the hour, minute, and second positions.

  • Outer Ring (60 LEDs): This ring is dedicated to representing Minutes and Seconds. Each LED represents exactly one second or one minute of a full rotation.
  • Inner Ring (48 LEDs): This ring represents the Hours and the twelve Hour Markers.

The AL60 represents time using three distinct "hands" of light:

  • Hour Hand (Amber/Orange): A bright point of light on the inner ring. It moves smoothly between the 12 markers to represent the current hour.
  • Minute Hand (Cyan): A point of light on the outer ring representing the current minute.
  • Second Hand (White): A point of light on the outer ring that moves once per second (or smoothly fades, depending on your settings).

You can change how the clock looks by cycling through the built-in Clock Effects using the Mode button or the Web Interface:

  • Standard: Crisp, distinct points of light for all hands.
  • Clock (Fade): The second hand moves with a smooth fading effect between positions.
  • Clock (Rainbow): All hands cycle through a spectrum of colors as they move.
  • Clock (RGB): Uses a multi-color theme for hands and markers.
  • Clock (Mono): A clean, single-color look for the entire display.

The AL60 can overlay environmental data on top of the clock face. These effects use the LEDs to visualize data from the built-in sensors:

  • Temperature Bar: A bar on the outer ring that grows from the bottom-left to bottom-right based on the current temperature.
  • Humidity Bar: A bar on the outer ring representing relative humidity.
  • Dual Bars: Displays both temperature and humidity simultaneously on opposite sides of the ring.
  • Glow Effects: The entire clock face takes on a subtle glow (calculated using a heat-map color scale) that reflects the current temperature or humidity levels.

[!TIP] Use a Double Click on the Mode button to quickly cycle through these sensory overlays.

To help you orient the clock, the inner ring features 12 dim markers. You can customise these markers in the Web Interface:

  • None: No markers are shown.
  • Highlight 12: Only the top marker is illuminated.
  • Highlight 12, 3, 6, 9: The four primary compass points are highlighted for easier reading.
